Back in Action’s award‑winning and innovative Injury Prevention Training (IPT) is a physiotherapy-led, bespoke programme designed to proactively reduce workplace musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries, improve safety, and enhance workforce wellbeing.
Developed and delivered by ACPOHE-registered occupational health physiotherapists, IPT goes beyond traditional manual handling training by embedding practical, role-specific learning directly into the working environment. Rather than relying on generic or classroom-based approaches, the programme is tailored to individual roles, tasks, and operational pressures, ensuring relevance, engagement, and sustained behavioural change.
Back in Action proudly won the inaugural British Safety Council Innovation in Health Award, in collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in June 2026 for our groundbreaking Injury Prevention Programme, in partnership with Veolia.
At its core, IPT focuses on equipping employees with the knowledge, confidence, and practical techniques to work safely within their own physical capability. Training is delivered “in real time” as employees perform their normal duties, enabling immediate application of safer movement patterns, posture, and handling techniques under real working conditions. IPT ensures compliance aligned to conventional MHT.
The programme takes a proactive, prevention-first approach by addressing the root causes of workplace injury rather than reacting after issues arise. By combining musculoskeletal screening, task analysis, and personalised technique adaptation, IPT supports both injury prevention and effective self-management of existing conditions through empowering workforces while maintaining operational performance.
Back in Action’s IPT programme has demonstrated measurable impact in high-risk, safety-critical environments and delivery of IPT to over 1,800 frontline workers at Veolia resulted in:
BIA have delivered their Injury Prevention Training to nearly 2,000 Veolia operatives over the last 2 years as our goal was to implement an innovative and preventative framework that provides real-time feedback from clinical specialists and keeps our people fit, healthy, and working. Back in Action’s support with our strategy has been instrumental. From the engagement of our collection contracts to the backing of senior leadership and the delivery of our Risk & Assurance team, injury prevention on such a wide scale simply wouldn't have been possible without BIA’s innovation and significant contribution.
