I was referred for physiotherapy through my employer and had an assessment followed by 4 sessions. Gail on reception was very friendly each visit. So too was Abimbola Josephine, my physiotherapist. She did a good job and I’m hopefully going to improve further as I keep doing the exercises.

Sarah McGrail

Role: Physiotherapist

Qualification: Grad Dip Phys MCSP

My physiotherapy career started off, learning my trade, in the NHS for my first 7 years after graduating. Then I moved into private practice and sports physiotherapy. I have worked with sports from grass roots level through to high profile international athletes. I was invited to be a member of the select Physiotherapy committee of the British Olympic Association, which I did for over 15 years. I travelled extensively, accompanying teams to warm weather training camps, international competitions, Youth, Commonwealth and Olympic games.
Alongside my experience with sporting injuries, my area of specific interest over the latter 15 years, is in the treatment of migraine headaches and sorting out complex neck and spinal problems.
Outside of work, my other interests include pottering in my allotment, competitive flower arranging and I’m an enthusiastic member of the village Gin Club.

“Great experience at Sano, York today. The appointments clerk was super helpful fitting me in, and Sarah sorted out my problem straight away. I limped into their office & walked out pain free & 3 inches taller.”

Role: Clinical Support Lead

Qualification: BSc Physiotherapy

I have been with Sano Physiotherapy for over 8 years. I initially worked within the NHS in the outpatient department, with a keen focus on chronic pain. I started working for Sano part time, but from this got a full time position as a junior physiotherapist, since this I have progressed and developed my skills and now, as well as maintaining a busy York clinic, I clinically review the majority of the Yorkshire physio staff. Assisting them with training, and developing them to be the best they can be!

“Elliott has been brilliant. My pain has been very much reduced in just a few sessions with him. He always listens to any concerns and allows time to ask questions. Very professional service and can’t thank him enough for his help in getting me back to normal.”

Matthew Gibson

Role: Physiotherapist

Qualification: BSc Physiotherapy and MSc Physiotherapy

I am a dedicated physiotherapist with over 10 years’ experience in sports therapy and recently completed Pre-Reg master’s degree in Physiotherapy that has further strengthened my clinical knowledge. I’m passionate about building meaningful connections with patients—supporting, motivating, and guiding them through every stage of their recovery. Whether managing complex cases or providing day-to-day physiotherapy treatment, I’m driven by a genuine commitment to improving people’s health, wellbeing, and confidence.

I thrive on the variety each day brings and the privilege of helping individuals return to the activities that matter most to them. In my spare time, I enjoy playing cricket in the summer months, working as a physiotherapist for a local football team, travelling whenever I can, and spending quality time with my young family.

As this was my first experience of a physio assessment I had no idea what to expect, but was made to feel really comfortable and came away feeling informed and confident on next steps. Lovely clinic with great staff. Highly recommended!

Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing long-term pain, or aiming to improve your performance, my aim is to make your sessions effective, engaging, and genuinely reassuring. Outside of work, I’m passionate about staying active through the gym, tennis, rugby, and running—interests that help me understand the demands of sport and the importance of getting you back to what you love.
